Journey through centuries of Jamaican history on the Jamaica Roots and Caverns Tour, combining the historic Seville Heritage Park with the underground wonders of Green Grotto Caves.
This carefully planned cultural experience traces Jamaica’s story from the island’s Indigenous Taíno communities through Spanish settlement, African enslavement, British plantation rule and the island’s continuing journey of resilience and cultural identity.
At Seville Heritage Park, explore one of Jamaica’s most historically significant locations. The estate stands near the former Taíno settlement of Maima and the site where the Spanish established Sevilla la Nueva—New Seville—in 1509. The location later became an English sugar estate after Britain captured Jamaica from Spain.
Follow a knowledgeable guide through the Seville Great House Museum, where artefacts and displays interpret the lives and experiences of Jamaica’s Taíno, African and European populations. Continue across the heritage grounds to see a replica Taíno village, a reconstructed house representing the lives of enslaved Africans and surviving features connected to the former sugar estate.
The park also contains the remains of a water wheel once used to operate the estate’s sugar mill, an overseer’s house and other historical features overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The guided experience provides valuable context about the cultures, conflicts and communities that helped shape Jamaica.
Your journey through the island’s past continues at Green Grotto Caves in Discovery Bay. Follow an experienced cave guide through a network of limestone passages, chambers and underground pathways formed naturally over thousands of years.
See stalactites, stalagmites and other limestone formations as you descend towards the cave’s still underground lake. Learn about the bats and smaller creatures that live within the cave and the efforts made to protect its delicate ecosystem.
Green Grotto Caves also preserves several chapters of Jamaican history. The underground passages were used at different periods by Taíno communities, Spanish settlers, people escaping enslavement and smugglers. Barrels of rum were also stored near the cave entrance during the Second World War.

Cancellation Policy
- For a full refund, cancel at least 48 hours in advance of the start time of the experience.
- This adventure requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund of the amount paid.
- If you are coming on a cruise, you will be refunded the full amount paid if your cruise ship does not dock.
